6. Move supports changing shifting
lifestyle patters; longer time in fulltime
education, separate living
between family and marriage
home.
7. Long distance relocation takes the
MOBDOM, personal vehicle via
ship. People fly separately.
8. Option to use ship with rails for
trains as used in Scandinavia
This is the foreword to the concept of Mobile Domicile, described
in detail at MOBDOM.org.ukIn this concept, every individual has
their own living quarter that can be moved like a cargo container.
Inside each unit are the tools of life, an electronic transporter for
short journeys, linkable with family units. Pods for cooking,
sleeping, ablutions, and they are transferable depending on our
preferences.
Indeed, the whole point of MOBDOM is that the spaces we inhabit
need not be fixed, instead they need only have the services we need
to survive; energy, water and waste services are all that is required.
The services and wireframe structure in which the container sits is
the MOBDOM Hive and this structure is scalable. As strange as it
seems, the inherent mobility of this solution is its key.
Lets take a hypothetical example of someone's life within this model
to better explain it using a fictional character. Alexi is a Studentfrom the Midlands, accepted to do his Degree on the South Coast. He spends 30 weeks a year in his
MOBDOM at Uni and inbetween times he is transported home in his MOBDOM during a night of his
choosing at the end of each term. Alternately, Alexi chooses to attach to his Mother's MOBDOM in the
Midlands and occasionally vacations with his father in the North. |

This way he continues his studies,
his familial links and need not be concerned about the costs of relocating 6 times a year away from his
families. Instead, his space goes with him, with him in it, preferably at night, when the world
slumbers, Alexi is moved gently by the Hive Crane to flatbed truck and straight onto a nearby cargo
train. He wakes the following day at his destination and wakes to find his life has been reorganised
and he may continue with his development in study. If you think this ridiculous bear in mind that while
we discuss the merits of Course fees at University, the Cuban government still provides transport,
pencils, pens and paper and food, to all of its Students.
Eventually, Alexi Graduates three times from his School of Engineering, elects a job offer in the
South East and applies for semi-permanent residence in a Hive nearby his workplace but also
conveniently situated for his recreational activities in the capital. Just as people always have he |
