The new Jaguar XF was the subject of the
Midland Centre technical lecture at
Coventry University in May when
70 members, students and friends
gathered to hear of the design and
development programme on
Coventry’s latest offering.
Introduced by Chairman, John
Reason, Mick Mohan, Director of
Programmes and Andy Whyman,
Manager, Vehicle Office Jaguar
gave a comprehensive talk on
how leading manufacturers tackle
one of the most complex
challenges in |
modern design. The challenge was to replace an existing model (S-type)
with a new vehicle which has all the discrete
technology Jaguar are famed for with a
contemporary design which would
appeal to younger buyers and yet
maintain the loyalty of traditional
buyers. It had to be faithful to
the Jaguar tradition of a
sporting saloon with
genuine sports car performance but offering the
sumptuousness of soft
leather, thick carpets and
quiet interior expected in a
luxury vehicle. |
