he company that revived the famous Connaught marque and the
team behind the Type-D hybrid sports coupe - a car designed
from the outset to leave a very low carbon footprint which will
commence series production later this year in South Wales - has
developed a unique, retro-fit diesel hybrid technology, HYBRID+,
designed to deliver significant fuel savings and an equivalent
percentage reduction in CO2 emissions, for light commercial vehicles
up to 3.5tonnes gross vehicle weight (GVW)
The first customer to take advantage of this important environmental
retro-fit technology is TESCO.COM. The company is currently equipping
seven Ford Transits, within their home delivery fleet with the
system, and will run them in a trial over the next six months. Following
the success of this initial trial it is anticipated that the balance of
the company’s Ford fleet will be progressively fitted with the
Connaught HYBRID+ technology. Connaught, in partnership with
TESCO.COM, has developed a bespoke system particularly suited to
the home delivery drive cycle and have achieved 15% fuel economy
improvements in laboratory test conditions.
Other leading companies fitting the unique technology and
announced at the CV show include major engineering and construction
group Balfour Beatty, German energy supplier E.on, the ROK
Group (the nation’s local builder) and timber and builders merchant
Ridgeons. LloydTSBautolease (who will be exhibiting the first front
wheel drive installation on their stand) are enabling fleet providers to
include the HYBRID+ as part of their leasing package. The
