It was the hottest day of the year, so far, when SAE-UK held their Ball & Craft Awards at the Hilton Hotel. In the evening sun and in the comfort of an air conditioned hall SAE-UK guests mingled, celebrated and were entertained by a 9 piece band. Later in the evening the party really got in the swing with some big band numbers from Cole Porter finishing at 1:30am to Sweet Caroline. The dance floor was filled with enthusiastic dancers.

A sell-out ball congratulated finalists of the 2006 Craft Awards supported by Training 2000, one of the top 25 training establishments in the UK and featured in the Vehicle Technology magazine, available for all online.

The three Vehicle Craft Competition Awards are for excellence in areas of Paint, Vehicle Construction and Repair and Technology. The premier award is the Apprentice of the Year 2006, the Ron Hopkins Cup; this was a particularly memorable part of the evening when the winner took his award. It transpired that Andrew Spence had survived serious illness to perform exceptionally in his apprenticeship and achieve his goal of becoming a professional, qualified automotive engineer. A worthy recipient of the Ron Hopkins cup received his award to a standing ovation.
