scientific materials to be purchased for their schools. Dave Cleverly was appointed, again, as a judge for the events.

Some additional Information about the progress of AWIM-UK

A week prior to this event (1st. March) Da46ve Cleverly held a workshop event for 70 pupils at Tregoze Primary School-Swindon and used the jet-powered car to explain and explore the theme of 'Pneumatics' that the pupils had been working on as part of their curricular activities.

  • To date this brings the number of pupils who have had some experience of A.W.I.M. over the last 3 years to approximately 1900.

The following events are being planned in 2007:

  • 4th. Annual event at Greendown Community School in June 2007 will involve up to 80 pupils.
  • Science Festival Event to be held at Brookfields School, Swindon, June 21st, for up to 120 pupils.
  • Carmarthenshire Event has the potential for 220 pupils to participate.
  • Some additional 5 schools have been supplied with kits in the last 3 weeks for the Skimmer Module and Jet-powered Car module to use in the curriculum based learning activities.

This brings the number of local schools that have participated in A.W.I.M. activities to 30 plus.

  • In 2007 it's planned to 'widen' the A.W.I.M. network within other areas of the country.
  • This opportunity will only be realised with the support of additional members of SAE-UK, who might be persuaded to give some time to go to schools and act as 'Engineering Mentors'

Give Something back! Volunteer some time for this activity to education@sae-uk.org
