The Performance Engineering Training Consortium brings together Colleges and Universities to support the Welsh Performance Engineering sector. The consortium is involved in the organisation of free seminars for Welsh Small and Medium sized Enterprises, recruitment events and competitions for Colleges and Universities together with networking events for industrialists and academics. Advice is also made available on full and part-time courses and resources across Wales and opportunities for funding of research and development and grants for new technology and innovation. The Photograph below shows the Swansea University Formula Student car competing at last year's SAE Formula Student finals at Bruntingthorpe in Leicestershire. The training |

supports such events as a means to encouraging recruitment into Science and Engineering. |

Another example of the work carried out by the Training Consortium is the Education Exhibition andConference held during Wales Rally GB in December 2006 (pictured botom left). The Exhibition was organised with the aid and support of the Welsh Assembly Government's Motorsport Initiative and was housed in a large, hard-walled marquee in the Swansea Service Park. Colleges and Universities throughout Wales were invited to exhibit, together with careers, road safety and other non-commercial organisations involved in motorsport and aerospace. |

Approximately 20,000 visitors came to the Service Park over the four days of the rally and the majority of them visited the exhibition.
The Education Conference |

was held on the Saturday of the rally and there were approximately 150 guests in attendance. They were addressed by the Minister from DEIN (the Department for Enterprise, Innovation, and Networks of the Welsh Assembly Government), Mr Andrew Davies and a number of other eminent speakers, addressing such issues as “Sustainability” and “Design for Function.” The Conference concluded with a panel discussion which brought together the speakers and other |
