Sealing and bonding specialist Sika Ltd has developed a range of hotmelt, solvent-based and water-based solutions, providing strong adhesion to many substrates, and meeting the needs of vehicle manufacturers for significantly-improved performance in interior comfort and functionality.
Given an increasingly diverse mix of interior plastics and fabrics being used to meet these requirements, Sika offers technologically-advanced adhesive, sealing and bonding solutions to suit all applications. Its complete product portfolio is described in a new range of literature to support customers in the Automotive and Transportation sectors.
The brochures, specifically aimed at designers, specifiers and manufacturers, provide in-depth information on a wide variety of advanced solutions for applications across the automotive, truck, bus and coach assembly industries.
‘Advanced Solutions for Interior Lamination’ explains Sika’s new patented one-component iso-cyanate-free lamination adhesive technologies and their applications. The newly-developed Si-kaTherm 4100 product range comprises reactive hotmelt adhesives, providing users with many new process benefits, while meeting all the requirements of laminating adhesives for the automotive and transportation industries.
Sika’s latest laminating adhesives offer a complete solution for the bonding of linings and trim materials in all types of vehicle interiors. They are easy to use, have excellent initial grab and the ability to accommodate high initial stresses. All have outstanding resistance to ageing with low fogging and |

emission levels. In addition to SikaTherm, SikaMelt and SikaSense technologies are used in the lamination and bonding of a variety of interior applications, including instrument panels, door trim, centre con-soles, stowage bins and seat assemblies.
The technological benefits of these ranges are detailed in publications for truck, bus and coach customers. SikaMelt formulations are available to meet customers’ varied substrate and process requirements. Providing good initial green strength without pre-treatment, SikaMelt is ideal for high speed assembly solutions.
Suitable for manual or automated application, SikaTherm water-based adhesives are high per-formance single and dual-component polyurethane dispersion systems. Capable of meeting the highest durability and long-term ageing standards, SikaTherm formulations are suitable for pressure and vacuum lamination.
A traditional solvent-based adhesive, SikaSense has been developed for high performance pressure sensitive dispersions, used for tape and sound damping applications. Flexible with broad substrate compatibility, it offers strong adhesion and a wide range of open times.
Sika is constantly developing innovative technologies in response to improved emissions and environmental performance needs, while reducing component cost and production cycle times for its customers.
